Stepping Stone Communities building homes for adults with developmental disabilities

"When In Rome" Gala hopes to raise money for 67 unit apartment building

Dianne Arendt has lived the past 37 years one day at a time with her son, who has developmental disabilities. He has taught her what it means to have to fight for each day.

Arendt has become an advocate for adults living with disabilities. She knows that they want the same thing as their peers: friendships, community, work, play, and something to call their own and be proud of.

"This amazing population has given us and our society so much! They have taught us acceptance, appreciating differences, spreading kindness, and unconditional love. We hope to help them create a safe, and affordable community where they can live and thrive with friends and caregivers where needed," Arendt said.

Arendt is a board member of Stepping Stone Communities, whose goal is to help adults with disabilities own a home of their own. It is estimated that more than 8,000 adults with developmental disabilities live with caretakers who are over 60.

Stepping Stone Communities believes these adults deserve to live independently, however, safe and appropriate options are rare and financially out of reach for the majority of these adults.

Stepping Stone Communities' second annual "When In Rome" Gala is raising money to build a 67 unit apartment building for adults with developmental disabilities.

The "When In Rome" Gala is being held on April 11 at Mile High Station. Last years event was attended by over 300 people who donated more than $200,000 in donations and services to the building project.

Individual tickets are $200 and sponsorships are available. Please join us and help adults with developmental disabilities lead full and meaningful lives.
