This Weekend: The White Ribbon Project Handcrafts Hope for Lung Cancer with Ribbon Building Project
Organizers will handmake 300 wooden ribbons to support those impacted by lung cancer
Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers in the United States. Even those who aren’t directly impacted by the disease likely know someone who is. It was one of the motivations for Heidi Nafman-Onda (lung cancer patient) and her husband to create The White Ribbon Project. Together, they create wooden white ribbons in the name of lung cancer advocacy.
Using just a template and jigsaw, the ribbons are handcrafted with hope in their garage. After they’re cut, they proudly display the words “Lung Cancer Awareness.” They’re then shipped all over the country and the world to lung cancer patients, their caregivers, or anyone impacted by this disease.
Because lung cancer is so common, they go through ribbons fast! That’s why this weekend, they’re preparing for fall outreach efforts by hosting a ribbon-building workshop.
- When: Saturday, July 27th, 10 AM - 4: PM
- Where: 9572 E. Lake Circle Greenwood Village, CO 80111
- Goal: Handmake 300 white ribbons
- Available for interview: Heidi Nafman-Onda (Co-founder/Director)
Searching the #WhiteRibbonProject you’ll likely see a number of ribbons on social media this Thursday, which is World Lung Cancer Day. The White Ribbon Project is collaborating with Lung Cancer Foundation of America to celebrate hope within the lung cancer community with a social media takeover! You can celebrate on Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube.
The ribbons created on Saturday will directly support advocacy and awareness efforts for Lung Cancer Awareness Month (November). Anyone with lungs can get lung cancer, and no one deserves a lung cancer diagnosis.
