City of Black Hawk Announces Hiring of New Police Chief

Chief Michelle Moriarty to replace recently retired Chief Ken Lloyd

The City of Black Hawk is pleased to announce that Michelle Moriarty has been selected as the City’s new Police Chief, replacing Chief Ken Lloyd, who recently retired.

Moriarty joins the Black Hawk Police Department after serving the City of Arvada for 25 years. She most recently served as the Commander for Arvada’s Whisper Creek Community Station. While employed by Arvada, she led their Criminal Investigation Bureau (CBI), Patrol (Sector and Watch Commander), the Traffic Unit and the School Resource Officer program, Jefferson County Regional Special Weapons, and Tactics Team (SWAT), Jefferson County Regional Critical Incident Response Team (investigating officer-involved shootings), Jefferson County J-CRASH Team (investigating officer-involved vehicle crashes) and the Child Abduction Response Team.

Moriarty, a Colorado native and graduate of University of Northern Colorado, has a passion for community policing, transparency in law enforcement and the development of the next generation of law enforcement leaders. Moriarty says she is excited to now work in one of her favorite places to relax.

“I am honored and excited to join the team in Black Hawk, and I will proudly serve as your new Chief of Police,” Moriarty said.
