Black Hawk Police Department Alerts Public to Scam Calls Impersonating Department

Black Hawk, Colorado, November 7, 2023 – The Black Hawk Police Department wishes to inform the public of recent fraudulent phone calls that impersonate the department, spoofing a valid police department phone number.  The caller claims to be a detective or lieutenant with the department advising the caller they have a warrant or a legal matter and need to pay a fine over the phone. 

The Black Hawk Police Department takes this matter very seriously and wants to emphasize that we will never call and demand payment of fines over the phone.  We do not conduct financial transactions or request personal information over the phone in this manner.

These scamming calls are not legitimate and are designed to deceive the public.  The department is working diligently to investigate and has contacted the FBI, which is aware of other similar scamming calls around the state. 

If you receive a suspicious call claiming to be from the Black Hawk Police Department, demanding payment or personal information, please hang up immediately and report it to your local law enforcement agency.  Be cautious when sharing personal information over the phone, and always verify the caller's identity.

The safety and security of our community is our top priority, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the public's trust in the Black Hawk Police Department.
