Southlands is Ready for Race Day with a Family-Friendly Kentucky Derby Celebration
Live music, food and drinks, activities for kids, and the race on the big screen
Aurora, Colo. (May 2, 2023) – Southlands Shopping Center invites the community to don their fancy hats and seersucker suits for its Kentucky Derby Celebration on Saturday, May 6, from 2:30-5 p.m.
“Our Kentucky Derby celebration is an afternoon of fun for the whole family, centered around this legendary horse race done ‘Southlands style.’ We are excited to host this celebration again this year and bring the community together for another fun-filled day to kick off our event season,” said Joyce Rocha, senior director of marketing.
Highlights of this family-friendly event include live music from Montage, food and drinks from Southlands restaurants, contests, prizes, and, of course, the most exciting two minutes in sports, the running of the Kentucky Derby on the big screen.
Restaurants such as Ted's Montana Grill, Bad Daddy's Burger Bar, and Monsoon Cuisine of India will be selling light bites along with beverages of all kinds. Legends Coffee will offer non-alcoholic options, and craft beers from Bent Barley Brewing Company will round out the celebration at this festive event.
There will also be a Kid’s Corral with various games and miniature horses from Equine Partnership Program, a local nonprofit organization that provides equine-assisted mental health therapy services to individuals and groups.
Southlands will give gift card prizes for various contests, such as best hat and best dressed. In addition, derby-perfect outfits can be found at Southlands’ Apricot Lane, Calla Vie Boutique, and Mainstream Boutique.
