City of Black Hawk partners with Denver Botanic Gardens to create high altitude mountain garden

Black Hawk's Mountain Life Park garden showcases beautiful choices for a colorful Colorado high country garden

Green thumb gardeners and casual flower fans are invited to enjoy a colorful new Colorado mountain garden at Mountain Life Park in Black Hawk.

Crews from the City of Black Hawk worked alongside experts to put in the eye-catching Denver Botanic Gardens-designed garden over the past couple weeks. Plant choices include poppies, columbines, and geranium, among many others. Denver Botanic Gardens designed the garden to create a beautiful landscape brimming with color and plant choices that thrive in Colorado's mountain climate.

Dozens of colorful perennials were added to the grounds of Mountain Life Park, a sculpture and waterfall garden located along Highway 119 on the banks of North Clear Creek. The flowers and soon-to-be-blooming plants are tucked in beautifully among sculptures of native Colorado animals. The entire sculpture garden sits next to a cascading stone waterfall, creating a peaceful oasis for everyone to enjoy. This new addition to the City of Black Hawk is a perfect place to enjoy a few minutes in the fresh, Colorado mountain air with friends and family in a gorgeous natural setting.

"Black Hawk has always been a beautiful place to spend time, and we are delighted to work with Denver Botanic Gardens to add a new splash of color to one of our most scenic public amenities," said Black Hawk Mayor David Spellman.

Remember the old wisdom about a new garden: "The first year, it sleeps. The second year, it creeps. The third year, it leaps!" That means now is a great time to visit Black Hawk to watch how the beautiful garden will grow and fill in over the next three seasons.

Mountain Life Park isn't the only spot getting a vibrant makeover: an explosion of newly-planted flowers also grace the public spaces of Stroehle Square, Gregory Diggings, and around the Courage Triad sculpture near the center of Black Hawk. All the flowers and sculptures are easily viewed on a leisurely stroll throughout the city, beckoning visitors and residents alike to enjoy a scenic and relaxing tour of this close-in mountain getaway.
